Keeping Score on the Shop Floor (San Antonio)

Southwest Research Institute 6220 Culebra Road, Building 68, San Antonio, TX, United States

What gets measured gets managed. Have you ever watched a football game and not looked at the scoreboard? Of course not! The score, time remaining and number of downs all matter to the coaches, the players, and the fans. Likewise, the metrics on the shop floor allow the employees to manage what needs to happen to be successful, and they then can work together towards achieving it.  These metrics/KPIs will trigger desired behaviors, guide the team’s focus, and help sustain that momentum. Although the customers do not see the metrics, they reap the benefits of improved on-time delivery, quality, and costs.
