Pat Boutier is a recent co-author of The 7 Kata: Toyota Kata, TWI, and Lean Training, which has won the Shingo Research and Professional Publication Award in 2013, from the Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence. He has over 40 years of technical and business experience including assisting companies experiment with implementing RFID solutions. He works with people in companies by experimenting and increasing their knowledge of Lean techniques especially Toyota Kata, working with different industries and their processes covering a wide variety of equipment processes and services. He is a Shingo Prize Examiner, a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and is certified as a “Training Within Industry” (TWI) Trainer and Coach in Job Relations, Job Methods, Job Instructions, Job Safety and Problem Solving. Pat’s professional background includes gaining a wide range of expertise from engineering, production, purchasing, accounting, finance, mentoring, business tactics and negotiations, allowing him to assist companies in holistic approaches to increasing their competitiveness. He has given numerous talks at many summits and conventions on diverse subjects.
He started his career as an intern with the Chicago Transit Authority designing rail cars, and then as a Microwave Design Engineer at Motorola, for over 16 years working in various engineering manufacturing positions and as an Engineering Manager and Production Manager. As a Vice President of Operations for a contract manufacturing company, he turned a bankrupt operation into a profitable venture within one year. Later, he managed multiple plants while also directing their purchasing and manufacturing operations for computers at Tandy Electronics. He then founded and managed his own company designing and manufacturing vision systems for handicapped and municipal applications. While working at TMAC, he has assisted companies in coal mines, coal fired and nuclear reactor power generation, liquid process, metal processing, food, chemical, cosmetic, furniture, sewing, electronic, defense, office and hospital processes.

Pat is experienced in diverse methodologies and in holistically understanding how each business is unique, yet how they can be reviewed and improved with certain basic tools. Specifically working with their people in strategic and tactical areas.
Pat’s work history includes Toyota Kata, TWI, Lean, financials, electronics, RFID implementations, purchasing, HR, technology and innovative approaches to product design and productivity improvements. He is also the co-author of a book on how to implement habits as a method for Continuous Improvement and Innovation.
(JI, JR, JM, JS & PS), Lean deployment, teaching Lean Six Sigma Black Belts and Green Belts, RFID implementations, and as a founder and owner of a company for over 12 years designing and manufacturing vision systems. Prior to this, Pat has had 20 years of electronic design and manufacturing in both large and small companies which included all areas of running a business.
Pat has trained, implemented and assisted many companies both in the United States, Canada and France in small, medium and large company situations. This also including teaching and coaching in French.
Education and Training:
He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in Microwave Quantum Effects and Feedback Control from Marquette University, and a Master of Business Administration degree with marketing option from Loyola University. Along with being CompTia RFID + certified, he has also received his Bronze Certificate in Lean, Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma, Lean accounting, and multiple certifications from NIST MEP in Lean Tools. He is a certified Andromeda Visual Financial Income Outcome Facilitator. He continues to expand his knowledge and involvement with many other certifications including ISO Lead Auditing, Toyota Kata and Innovation Engineering.
